Engaging the Adversary of our Soul
And war broke out in heaven: Michael and his angels fought with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. So, the great dragon was cast out, that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, who deceives the whole world; he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him. Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11 And they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, and they did not love their lives to the death. Revelation 12:7-11
Summary
There is a time of war and a time of peace. In times of war, when the enemies throw the arrows of afflictions, torment, oppression, frustrations, intimidation, perversion, destruction at us, we must contend with him through prayer and our confession of the word of God to nullify his plans. The passage above reveals Michael the Archangel contending with forces of darkness and wickedness to expel and nullify their insurrections against the Kingdom of God in heaven. This is encapsulated as follows.
1. Hostile territorial angelic engagement in the heavens
2. Michael the Archangel defeated the satanic forces of darkness and wickedness.
3. The devil and his host were cast down from their abode in heaven.
4. Victory celebrations and rejoicing in heaven that the Kingdom of God and Christ is established among men. The devil was defeated.
5. Divine mandate and power were given to believers to walk in the victory that Christ has won through his blood and the word of God.
Jesus said to them, “I saw Satan fall from heaven like lightning. Luke 10:18 (NLT)
Grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Christ Jesus, who loved us and washed us from our sins in his own blood. May the name of the LORD be glorified in our life in the name of Jesus. Brethren, many have written about the spiritual warfare that believers are engaged in and the victory that God through Christ Jesus had won for us. However, this article is written primarily to remind us of the need for vigilance and to remind us of the victory that we have in Christ coupled with raising awareness of the deceptive strategies of the devil. We read the account in the Old testament of the repeating cycle of disobedience, idolatry, unbelief, murmuring and complaining by the people of Israel against God and his servant Moses, whenever they encounter an adverse situation. Hidden behind the scenes is a cruel manipulator, the lawless one, that instigates rebellion against the commandments of God, in the heart of those who do not exercise faith in God. Ultimately, many of them could not reach the promised land except for Joshua and Caleb among the generation that left Egypt.
The power of life and death belongs to God and his Christ. Satan a created being operates within the scope given to him by God. We must also remember that God created other angels who are far stronger and more powerful than Satan. Equally, we must remember that demons can be punished, tormented, and cast out by the presence of the Spirit of God Almighty for violation of his rules.
For unclean spirits, crying with a loud voice, came out of many who were possessed; and many who were paralyzed, and lame were healed. Acts 8:7
The Strategy of Satanic deception
1. Oppression of the mind through affliction and adversities in order to plant doubt and unbelief and to instigate us to murmur and complain against God. Many believers are battling afflictions of different kind and shades, being tormented and unable to enjoy the joy of salvation and the peace of God. This, however, mainly happens when we break fellowship with God and our heart is barren of the word of God and we are too busy to spend time in prayers to God to receive new grace and strength to sustain our faith.
2. Provocation to sin. Satan may assault the mind of believers with sinful thoughts, imaginations, and desires to lure the believer who is weak in prayer to do the unthinkable, that will bring shame and reproach to the name of the Lord. Satan seduced and incited David to commit adultery and murder despite his anointing, because he was spiritually asleep in times of war. We behave like David sometimes, when the comfort of life seduces us into spiritual slumber thus opening the door to the adversary to wreak havoc in our life. Today by the power of God every band of slumber in your life is broken in the name of Jesus.
3. Erect barriers, hedge, fence, blockade to impede our progress in life, causing delays to the attainment of our spiritual and physical goals through lethargy, frustration, distractions of life and mental afflictions. Today by the power of God we break every hedge and barriers erected against your life, family, business, and ministry in the name of Jesus Christ.
4. The ultimate goal of Satan is to steal, kill and destroy the glorious image and likeness of God in man for whom Christ has died and to blockade believers from getting to the promised land in heaven just like he did for the children of Israel in the wilderness. Thanks be to God for his Word that he will build his church and the gates of hell shall never prevail over her through Christ.
The Divine Solution
Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Colossian 3:16-17
Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the Lord, and their righteousness is of me, saith the Lord. Isaiah 54:15-17
For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war according to the flesh. For the weapons of our warfare are not [a]carnal but mighty in God for pulling down strongholds, casting down arguments and every high thing that exalts itself against the knowledge of God, bringing every thought into captivity to the obedience of Christ, and being ready to punish all disobedience when your obedience is fulfilled. 2 Corinthians 10:3-6 (NKJV).
God has declared unto us a promise that no weapon formed against us shall prosper or prevail over us. Let us reflect for a moment, on what the Lord is saying. No weapon of darkness, wickedness, enchantment, snares, divinations, spells, etc that the enemy deploys against us shall prevail over us. We give thanks to God our Father, whose words are forever, settled in heaven concerning us, for God is not a man that he should lie nor the son of man that he should repent. Every word that proceeds out of the mouth of the Lord is Yea and Amen. So, I declare unto you in the name of Adonai the God of Israel that every weapon that is deployed against you shall fail in the name of Jesus Christ.
Finally, brethren, let us keep on serving the Lord sincerely, let us keep on trusting the Lord, reading his word, praying for the saints and the church, that God will keep us in his love by the power of the holy Spirit in the name of Jesus. We have the support network of God Almighty, Christ Jesus, the Holy Spirit, and the heavenly host of angels, backing us every step of the way. May the grace of God keep and preserve us through Christ (amen)
