The Revelation of God

Main Banner

The word Revelation from old French word Revelacion was transliterated from the Greek word Revelationem meaning the disclosure or unveiling of knowledge or information of divine origin to man through a supernatural agency. When we gaze at the night sky with its myriad of glowing stars, the moon and the sun shining and radiating warmth in all its glory. When we look around and see infinite numbers of beautiful creatures, insects, birds, reptiles, animals and countless others, gracefully enjoying life and creating new life. When we see the cataclysmic violence of earthquakes, Tsunami, tornadoes, and volcanic eruptions. When we sail our ships in mighty oceans with thunderous waves lifting us up and down its crest. When we observe the birth of new offspring of men, plants, and animals. When we observe the creative intelligence of men in all walks of life. When we observe the mathematical precision of the immutable laws of physics that governs the operations of the universe. We come to an intuitive conclusion that we were created. We know that behind this awesome creation is an omnipotent and omniscience being that is outside the created order. He designed and applied the laws of the universe, made us to be intelligent and adaptive moral beings with freewill.

In the midst of our contemplation is an awful silence, a void that reason cannot penetrate or breach despite our best effort at seeking to know our creator God. So, men through history began to worship nature and creatures with fearsome power like the Eagles, Lions, Serpents, etc and some worship destructive natural phenomenon like thunders, lightning, and made sacrifices to unknown angry gods that they assume is behind the ravaging storm and drought to appease them.

Then comes the unveiling of the mystery of creation in the scroll of Genesis – The first book of Moses, the holy scripture gave us a revelatory account of the order of creation.

1 In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was without form, and void; and darkness [a]was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters. 3 Then God said, “Let there be light”; and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. [b]So the evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis 1:1-4

As we scroll down the book of Genesis following successive creation of the land, firmaments, the sun, moons, and stars, living creatures on land and seas, fish, birds and creeping things, and plants and trees, we come to the place of divine contemplation for the creation of man the Jewel of creation.

26 Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over [g]all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.” 27 So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them. 28 Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that [h]moves on the earth.”
Genesis 1:26-28

The account of creation as revealed to Moses the Prophet was summarized in the passage of the Genesis scroll below.
2. Thus the heavens and the earth, and all the host of them, were finished. 2 And on the seventh day God ended His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. 3 Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because in it He rested from all His work which God had created and made.
Genesis 2:1-2

As we reflect upon these revelations, let us ponder for a moment upon the sheer complexity and the wonders of creation, the unfathomable depth of wisdom and understanding that made it possible and the love of God that conceives it. From the very beginning God had pronounced a blessing upon our life and equipped us with faculties that will enable us to prosper and multiply, coupled with the wisdom to subdue the Earth.

Blessed are you O Lord our God, for the blessings of creation.
